Three of The Easiest Ways to Manipulate People into Doing What You Want

Three of the Easiest ways to manipulate People into doing what you want are following:

Scaring The Hell Out of You: The Fear-Then-Relief Procedure:

For example: The book The Science of Social Influence details a few experiments that showed this in action. In one, shoppers in a mall were scared by a stranger touching their shoulder from behind. When they turned around, the shoppers found that their assailant was a (supposed) blind man who just wanted to ask the time. After that deflection and relief, someone else—the fake blind man's confederate—asked the targets if they would buy and sign postcards for a political charitable cause. Those who had met the blind man and experienced the fear-then-relief roller-coaster were more likely to do so than the control group which wasn't manipulated.

Making You Feel Guilty: Social Exchange

For example: A co-worker could remind you about that time they bailed you out big time in the past, then use that as leverage every time he/she needs something. Or someone who loaned you money or knows a secret of yours could continually blackmail you into doing what they want (a subject we've covered extensively)

Priming You With a Small Request: The Foot-in-the-Door Technique

ExamplesNPR gives an example of a panhandler who asks you for the time, then asks you to spare a buck. By getting you to say yes to one request, you're more likely to say yes to a second one.

Avoiding These Manipulations

Just knowing about manipulative techniques can help you avoid falling victim to them. For the fear-then-relief technique, for example, be on the lookout whenever you feel a surge in negative and then positive emotions. You're more vulnerable at that time to do things mindlessly and at the suggestion of others. Watch out for statements that follow this general formula:Something terrible could have happened to you, but it [didn't/won't]. [Now do this]. These aren't the only ways someone could trick you into saying yes, of course, but they are some of the more common—just keep an eye out, stay on your toes, and you should be able to spot when someone's trying to pull a fast one.

Reverse Psychology Actually Works

Reverse psychology has become an enormous cliché. I think this peaked in 1995 with the release of the film Jumanji. (If you've seen it and remember it, you know what I'm talking about.) The problem is that most people look at reverse psychology in a very simple way. For example, you'd say "I don't care if you want to go risk your life jumping out of a plane" to try and convince someone not to go skydiving. This isn't reverse psychology—it's passive-aggressive. So let's leave that all behind and start from scratch.

If you're going to use logic reversals in your favour, you need to be subtle. Let's say you want your room-mate to do the dishes because it's his or her turn. There's always this approach:
"Hey, would you mind doing the dishes? It's your turn."
But in this example we're assuming your room-mate is lazy and the nice approach isn't going to get the job done. So what do you do? Something like this:
"Hey, I've decided I don't want to do the dishes any more and am just going to start buying disposable stuff. Is that cool with you? If you want to give me some money, I can pick up extras for you, too."
What this does is present the crappy alternative to not doing the dishes without placing any blame. Rather than being preoccupied with an accusation, your room-mate is left to only consider the alternative. This is how reverse psychology can be effective, so long as you say it like you mean it.

Never Talk About the Idea—Talk Around It

Getting someone to want to do something can be tough if you know they're not going to want to do it, so you need to make them believe it was their idea. This is a common instruction, especially for salespeople, but it's much easier said than done. You have to look at planting ideas in the same way you'd look at solving a mystery. Slowly but surely you offer the target a series of clues until the obvious conclusion is the one you want. The key is to be patient, because if you rush through your "clues" it will be obvious. If you take it slow, the idea will form naturally in their mind all by itself.

Let's say you're trying to get your friend to eat healthier food. This is a good aim, but you've got a tough enemy: they're addicted to the Colonel and need a bucket of fried chicken at least once a day. Out of concern you tell them to eat healthier. They either think that's a good idea and then never do anything or just tell you to stop nagging them. For them to realize what they're doing to their body, they need to have an epiphany and you can make that happen by talking around the issue.

To do this you need to be very clever and very subtle, otherwise it will be obvious. You can't just say "oh, I read today that fried chicken is killing 10 million children in Arkansas every year" because that's a load of crap and comes with an incredibly obvious motivation for saying it. If chicken is the target, you need to make chicken seem really unappealing. Next time you sneeze, make a joke about coming down with the avian flu. When you're ordering at a restaurant together, verbally convey your decision to order something other than chicken because you just learned how most chicken is processed by restaurants.
When you've done enough of these things -- and, again, with enough space between them so that it doesn't seem like odd behavior -- you can start being a little more aggressive and stop going with your friend to get fried chicken. You can also take proactive steps to improve your own health and tell your friend 1) what you're doing, and 2) how well it's working for you. After a few weeks, if your friend hasn't decided to reconsider his or her position on frequent fried chicken, you can casually mention it and they should be much more open to having a real discussion.

Exam Phobia - Symptoms, Reasons, Solution

“I like to study and I like the subjects and my class performance is also very good but I don’t like to take part in the examination. Why is it necessary?” In  student life it was common to not want to face an examination and it still is.
Mostly all students are afraid of examination. This fear is a common picture among students and the feelings increase when students start studying. In extreme cases  symptoms of exam phobia can be easily observed and addressed.
Exam Phobia

To know whether exam phobia is a barrier to good grades, you need to recognise the symptoms. Simple fear of exams is ordinary  and is not exam phobia. These are some clear symptoms of exam phobia.
  • Having nightmares.
  • Feeling over stressed with studies and worried about examinations/results.
  • Feelings of anger and inability to concentrate on studies.
  • Loss of appetite.
  • Dry throat.
  • Oversleeping.
  • Becoming addicted to television or games.
  • Increase in heart rate.
  • Breathing difficulty.
  • Sweating, trembling and cold limbs.
  • Suffering from abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting and sometimes diarrhea.
  • Becoming a victim of frequent urination.
  • Avoiding schools.
But what are the root causes of exam phobia?  here is some common reasons behind exam phobia.
  • Students are scared of exams because they know they are not prepared for them.
  • They underestimate themselves.
  • They are too scared about their future.
  • Their friends have negative influence; some lack confidence and others are over confident.

To avoid exam phobia, studying is the only option. A proper study schedule can help students to complete their syllabus in time. Confidence is another important factor. If students can finish their syllabus before exams, confidence will increase.
There also needs to be proper sleep, food and break intervals from study for good preparation. Eat healthy and balanced meals and no matter the temptation do not go for energy drinks (they make you hyperactive, not focused), oily foods, caffeine etc. Check all the accessories you need for your examination.
Start for your exams a bit earlier and after entering the exam hall take a long breath. It will help you to control your nerves. Don’t talk with your friends about your preparation too much before the exams and also no need to share about your answer paper after the examination. Always try to think about your present, not the future. If you can start all these practices, you will able to reduce your exam phobia.
Nothing is impossible and exams are far from it. It becomes impossible or problematic when we fail to identify the root of our problems. Before falling prey to this phobia, try to find the root of your problems. A solution is always there.

9. Start a conversation. The best opening line is saying hello. Talk about the surroundings, ask a question, ask for help, make a joke, state an opinion. Make sure you are calm and composed but just do it before the person you've got your eye on walks out of the bar or passed you in the street, never to be seen again!

8. Have fun. Be playful, light-hearted and spontaneous. Show your vulnerability.

7. Use props. Never leave home without a prop. Props are natural conversation starters. They encourage conversation and others will be compelled to start talking to you. Great props include: dogs, kids, unusual jewelry, a fabulous scent, a distinctive bag from your favorite store or an interesting book or newspaper.

6. Be the host. Change your behavior from the role of guest to host. You are not the passive person in waiting, but rather the welcome committee.

A Butterfly Story. By Ravinder Singh

A man found a cocoon of a butterfly. One day a small opening .appeared; he sat and watched the butterfly for several hours as it struggled to force its body through that little hole. Then it seemed to stop making any progress. It appeared as if it had gotten as far as it could and it could go no farther.

Then the man decided to help the butterfly, so he took a pair of scissors and snipped off the remaining bit of the cocoon. The butterfly then emerged easily. But it had a swollen body and small, shriveled wings.

The man continued to watch the butterfly because he expected that, at any moment, the wings would enlarge and expand to be able to support the body, which would contract in time.

Neither happened! In fact, the butterfly spent the rest of its life crawling around with a swollen body and shriveled wings. It never was able to fly.

What the man in his kindness and haste did not understand was that the restricting cocoon and the struggle required for the butterfly. To get through the tiny opening were nature’s way of forcing fluid from the body of the butterfly into its wings, so that it would be ready for flight once it achieved its freedom from the cocoon.
Sometimes struggles are exactly what we need in our life. If nature allowed us to go through our life without any obstacles, it would cripple us. We would not be as strong as what we could have been. And we could never fly..

BOMB Blast In Delhi...by Ravinder Singh

New Delhi: A minor explosion took place in a car park outside the Delhi High Court on Wednesday afternoon, which, according to Delhi Police, was of low intensity. As a precautionary measure, a high alert has been sounded in Delhi and Quick Reaction Teams have been deployed at Railway Stations and other important installations. The police sources further said the blast took place in a plastic bag placed near a white Ford Figo car carrying a registration number DL4C AS-7935, and not inside the car itself, as reported earlier.

Police officials are not ruling out foul play amid speculation that terrorist outfit Indian Mujahideen (IM) could be behind the blast.

Delhi Police Special Commissioner (Law and Order) Dharmendra Kumar said the blast was caused by a low-intensity explosive in which no one was injured.

"It was not a life-threatening blast... It was a small blast... The explosion took place in a small plastic bag," he said.

"The bag was kept outside the car, just near the bonnet," Kumar said, adding even the car was not damaged by it.

He said the type of explosive is unknown and the samples have been sent for forensic examination.

Forensic tests will be carried out on the contents of the bag to ascertain the material that was kept inside the bag. However, preliminary investigation has revealed that the impact of the blast could have been severe if it was packed properly.

The explosion took place near the Gate No. 7 of the High Court. It was earlier being speculated that the car’s radiator might have blasted due to intense heat.

The Police Control Room had received information about the blast at about 1.24 pm. Soon after, ambulances, fire brigades were rushed to the site of explosion along with the police. A bomb disposal squad is also at the site. In addition to it, some officials of National Security Guards (NSG) also reached the blast site to analyse the material used in the explosion.
The Ford Figo belonged to a lawyer by the name of Mr R Jain, who was in the canteen having lunch when he heard a loud sound. Rushing out, he discovered that an explosion had taken place near his car.
No injuries or casualties have been reported so far, though few cars placed in the vicinity of Ford Figo got damaged.

In view of the blast, the security outside shopping malls and important business complexes have been tightened and local residents have been asked to report to police about any unattended article or suspected persons moving in the area.

चालान काटने के बाद पुलिस ने पीटा- --CA.Sunil Goyal By Ravinder Singh

5 things you should never share on Facebook ..By Ravinder Singh

On Wednesday 18 May 2011, Washington, May 18 (ANI): Almost every user likes to share everything on their Facebook page but certain updates can lead to criticism, embarrassment and even job termination.
So here's a shortlist of what you shouldn't share on the social networking site, reports CBS news.
1.That your job sucks.
If you say this, you could be fired.
2.That you hate your ex.
In the event that you and your boyfriend get back together, or you and that friend you had a falling out with start talking again, you'll look like a total sucker. It's okay to let your emotions govern your thoughts but keep your feelings off your Facebook until you've started to think clearly about said ex.
The important thing to remember about social networks is that although you have the option to delete your comments, sometimes it can be too late. It's immediate and someone might've laid eyes on it before your retraction.
3.That you're going on vacation and then give the dates you're away.
You could be robbed. A recent study found that thieves scan social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter for folks in targeted neighborhoods before they strike.
4.That you love yourself.
In fact, don't give any indication that you're your biggest fan. Your followers will only think the opposite. It's the biggest barometer of insecurity. Researchers at the University at Buffalo also found that women who base their self-worth on appearance and what people think of them tend to upload pictures very frequently.
5.That you're mean.
Saying mean things about people can only make you undesirable-for potential employers, dates, friends and strangers. (ANI)

Attraction Signs Between a Boy & Girl

Eye Contact
If the object of your desire holds your eyes for more than a few seconds, he could be attracted to you. Prolonged eye contact shows interest in a person. Maintain eye contact if you want to show your interest in another person. If you notice that your special person is looking at you more than usual and then quickly looking away when you look back, she may be interested in you as well.
Teasing
Good-natured teasing is a sign of attraction between a boy and girl. If the person you are attracted to tends to tease you more than other people, he may be interested in you. Make a special effort to joke with your special person so that she knows that you are interested in her.
Physical Contact
Extra touching is a sign of attraction between a boy and a girl. If a special person gives you more hugs now, he may be interested in you. "Accidently" touching someone when he is walking down the hall shows that you are interested in him. Finding a reason to be physically near a guy could show him that you like him.
Laughing
Laughing more when the person you like is around is a sign of attraction. If the girl you like is making more jokes when you are around, she may like you. Being more of a clown around a certain guy could show him that you like him.
Spending Time
Find a reason to spend extra time with your special someone. Offer to help him with his math homework. Walk her home after her soccer game. Walk to classes together. Spending extra time with her will let her know that you are interested in moving your relationship to a new level.

Pak fails to convince US on nuclear deal, Kashmir

Washington: Despite managing to get $2.29 billion in fresh military aid, Pakistan failed to extract anything from the US on two key issues of civilian nuclear deal similar to that of India and American intervention in the Kashmir issue.
US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton did not respond to a question on Pakistan's quest for a civilian nuclear deal on the lines of India, thus clearly indicating that it is not on the radar of the Obama Administration, which has announced a series of civilian and military assistance to Pakistan during the US-Pak Strategic Dialogue.

Similarly, US State Department spokesman PJ Crowley clarified for the second successive day that the US has no role to play in the Kashmir issue and both India and Pakistan has to resolve it bilaterally. Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, however, asserted that he will not give up and continue to persist on these issues.

"Things we've tried in the past, it hasn't worked. That doesn't mean we give up. We are persistent. And as they say: Perseverance commands success. So I am not giving up," Qureshi said at a joint-press conference with Clinton in the Foggy Bottom headquarters of the State Department.

"I can assure you that all issues have been discussed, and it's not just what we talk about here in Washington for two days, but it's what we continue to talk about between meetings, between our experts and our officials," Clinton said when asked about the civilian nuclear deal being sought by Pakistan.

Clinton announced a multi-year security assistance commitment to Pakistan of $2.29 billion under foreign military assistance to be made available for the period from 2012 to 2016. "That money for military assistance complements the $7.5 billion commitments in civilian projects that has already been approved by the Kerry-Lugar-Berman legislation," she said.

"To build the kind of future that young Pakistanis deserve, people of courage must stand against these extremists. And our two governments are working closely together with governments around the world and millions and millions of people who understand the threat that is posed to eliminate terrorism," she added.

"As we conclude this Third Strategic Dialogue session in seven months, we can see that our intensive consultations, our frank discussions, our focus on cooperation have already yielded an improvement in our bilateral relationship."

India third most powerful nation: US report

Tue, Sep 21 11:57 AM

Washington, Sep 21 (IANS) India is listed as the third most powerful country in the world after the US and China and the fourth most powerful bloc after the US, China and the European Union in a new official US report.

The new global power lineup for 2010 also predicted that New Delhi's clout in the world will further rise by 2025, according to 'Global Governance 2025' jointly issued by the National Intelligence Council (NIC) of the US and the European Union's Institute for Security Studies (EUISS).

Using the insights of a host of experts from Brazil, Russia, India and China, among others, and fictionalised scenarios, the report illustrates what could happen over the next 25 years in terms of global governance.

In 2010, the US tops the list of powerful countries/regions, accounting for nearly 22 percent of the global power.

The US is followed by China with European Union at 16 percent and India at eight percent. India is followed by Japan, Russia and Brazil with less than five percent each.

According to this international futures model, by 2025 the power of the US, EU, Japan and Russia will decline while that of China, India and Brazil will increase, even though there will be no change in this listing.

By 2025, the US will still be the most powerful country of the world, but it will have a little over 18 percent of the global power.

The US will be closely followed by China with 16 percent, European Union with 14 percent and India with 10 per cent.

'The growing number of issues on the international agenda, and their complexity, is outpacing the ability of international organisations and national governments to cope,' the report warns.

This critical turning point includes issues of climate change, ethnic and regional conflicts, new technology, and the managing of natural resources.

The report also highlights the challenges proponents of effective global governance face.

On one hand, rapid globalistion, economic and otherwise, has led to an intertwining of domestic politics and international issues and fueled the need for more cooperation and more effective leadership.

But on the other hand, an increasingly multipolar world, often dominated by non-state actors, have put a snag in progress toward effectual global governance, it said.

God did not create the universe, says Hawking

Fri, Sep 3 11:23 AM

God did not create the universe and the "Big Bang" was an inevitable consequence of the laws of physics, the eminent British theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking argues in a new book.

In "The Grand Design", co-authored with U.S. physicist Leonard Mlodinow, Hawking says a new series of theories made a creator of the universe redundant, according to the Times newspaper which published extracts on Thursday.

"Because there is a law such as gravity, the universe can and will create itself from nothing. Spontaneous creation is the reason there is something rather than nothing, why the universe exists, why we exist," Hawking writes.

"It is not necessary to invoke God to light the blue touch paper and set the universe going."

Hawking, 68, who won global recognition with his 1988 book "A Brief History of Time", an account of the origins of the universe, is renowned for his work on black holes, cosmology and quantum gravity.

Since 1974, the scientist has worked on marrying the two cornerstones of modern physics -- Albert Einstein's General Theory of Relativity, which concerns gravity and large-scale phenomena, and quantum theory, which covers subatomic particles.

His latest comments suggest he has broken away from previous views he has expressed on religion. Previously, he wrote that the laws of physics meant it was simply not necessary to believe that God had intervened in the Big Bang.

He wrote in A Brief History ... "If we discover a complete theory, it would be the ultimate triumph of human reason -- for then we should know the mind of God."

In his latest book, he said the 1992 discovery of a planet orbiting another star other than the Sun helped deconstruct the view of the father of physics Isaac Newton that the universe could not have arisen out of chaos but was created by God.

"That makes the coincidences of our planetary conditions -- the single Sun, the lucky combination of Earth-Sun distance and solar mass, far less remarkable, and far less compelling evidence that the Earth was carefully designed just to please us human beings," he writes.

Hawking, who is only able to speak through a computer-generated voice synthesiser, has a neuro muscular dystrophy that has progressed over the years and left him almost completely paralysed.

He began suffering the disease in his early 20s but went on to establish himself as one of the world's leading scientific authorities, and has also made guest appearances in "Star Trek" and the cartoons "Futurama" and "The Simpsons".

Last year he announced he was stepping down as Cambridge University's Lucasian Professor of Mathematics, a position once held by Newton and one he had held since 1979.

"The Grand Design" is due to go on sale next week.

China deploys new CSS-5 missiles on border with India

WASHINGTON: China has moved new advanced longer range CSS-5 missiles close to the borders with India and developed contingency plans to shift airborne forces at short notice to the region, according to Pentagon. Despite increased political and economic relationship between India and China, the Pentagon in a report to the US Congress said, tensions remain along the Sino-India borders with rising instances of border violation and aggressive border patrolling by Chinese soldiers.
However, a senior Defense Departmentofficial told reporters that the US has not observed any anomalous increase in military capabilities along the Sino-India border.
Noting that China continues to maintain its position on what its territorial claim is, the official said, the two capitals - Beijing and New Delhi - have been able to manage this dispute, in a way, using confidence-building measures and diplomatic mechanisms to be able to maintain relative stability in that border area.
"But it's something that China continues to watch; but I wouldn't say that there's anything in this report that demonstrates a spike or an anomalous increase in military capabilities along the border.
"It's something that China's paying very careful attention to. It's obviously something that India is paying careful attention to as well," the Senior Defense Department official said.
In its annual report, the US Defence department said, to improve regional deterrence, the PLA has replaced older liquid-fueled, nuclear capable CCS-3 intermediate range missiles with more advanced and survivable fueled CSS-5 MRBMs.
"China is currently engaged in massive road and rail infrastructure development along the Sino-India border primarily to facilitate economic development in western China: improved roads also support PLA operations," the Pentagon said.
The report presented to the Congress said despite increased political and economic relations over the years between China and India, tensions remain along their shared 4,057 km border, most notably over Arunachal Pradesh, which China asserts as part of Tibet and therefore of China, and over the Aksai Chin region at the western end of the Tibetan Plateau.
"Both countries, in 2009, stepped up efforts to assert their claims. China tried to block a USD 2.9 billion loan to India from the Asian Development Bank, claiming part of the loan would have been used for water projects in Arunachal Pradesh. This represented the first time China sought to influence this dispute through a multilateral institution," the Pentagon said.
